St. Louis Blues (24-25-5, 53 points) vs Florida Panthers (32-20-3, 67 points), 7pm tonight
Odds: Panthers -170, Blues +145
Total: 5.5 (over -120, under +100)
The Stanley Cup champions are in town as the Blues host the Florida Panthers tonight.
The Blues picked up a point in an overtime loss to the Oilers on Tuesday, but they are still losers of five of their last six games overall and are also looking to snap a four-game home losing streak.
The Blues played a good third period against the Oilers and hopefully can carry that play over to this game. But it’s difficult to see how Jim Montgomery’s team is going to keep pace with the champs.
The Blues continue to struggle to score, having notched more than two goals just twice in their last 11 games. And now they’re up against one of the top offensive attacks in the league, as only two teams in the NHL have scored more goals than Florida this season.
The Panthers have been bludgeoning subpar opposition of late. They’ve won five consecutive games against teams outside of the playoff picture, and each of those victories has been by at least three goals.
And the Blues have been losing by margin of late, as eight of their last ten defeats have been by two or more goals. They were arguably lucky to only lose by one goal to Edmonton on Tuesday after being outshot 38-22.
I wouldn’t dissuade anyone from sprinkling a little bit on the Panthers to win by multiple goals at a plus money price.
Lean: Panthers -1.5 at +150
