Blues, Avalanche Look To Bounce Back
The St. Louis Blues host the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday with both teams playing the second leg of back-to-backs.
Both teams suffered close losses on Saturday, with the Blues falling at home 4-3 in a shootout to Winnipeg and the Avalanche dropping a 2-1 decision at Nashville.
Blues Struggling At Home
The Blues are approaching the end of a stretch that sees them play nine of eleven games at Enterprise Center. Unfortunately for the Blues in the first nine games of this eleven game portion of their schedule, they have struggled to a record of 2-5-2.
Overall this season, the Blues have disappointed on home ice to the tune of a 12-14-3 record. The Avalanche meanwhile have fared well on the road this season with a record of 17-13-0.
Avalanche Thrive On No Rest
You would think the Blues would have a situational edge here without having to travel for their second game in two nights, while the Avalanche are having to fly to St. Louis from Nashville after their loss on Saturday.
However, Colorado has been incredible in the second game of back-to-backs - in particular when playing on the road. The Avalanche are 5-2 in the second game of back-to-backs this season. Five of those instances have seen the Avs play both games of the back-to-back on the road, and they have won the second game all five times.
My Pick
The Blues have struggled in the second game of back-to-backs, going 1-4 this season. They also got whipped by Colorado 5-0 in their previous meeting on January 31st.
The Avalanche lost their game on Saturday, and that’s actually a bad omen for the Blues. Since the beginning of December, Colorado’s record in the game following a loss is 11-2. So this team tends to wipe the losing taste out of its mouth very quickly.
You got to lay a little bit of juice in this one to bet the Avalanche to win, but I think it’s worth it with all the data pointing in one direction.
Pick: Avalanche -145 on BetMGM
