Nick Leddy’s name has been on the tips of Blues fans' tongues quite a bit this season, for one reason or another. The veteran defenseman returned from injury on Feb. 4 against the Edmonton Oilers and has since contributed one goal, one assist, 16 blocks, and four hits.

Leddy was drafted 16th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft by his hometown Minnesota Wild. However, he began his NHL playing career as a Chicago Blackhawk, where he contributed to the club’s 2013 Stanley Cup championship run.

In the 2014-15 offseason, he was traded to the New York Islanders, where he was rewarded for his tenacious play with a seven-year, $38.5 million contract. The Islanders recently named Leddy as part of the team’s first defensive pairing for its “Quarter-Century Team:”

During the 2020-21 season, the Islanders traded Leddy to the Detroit Red Wings, where he remained for just one season before coming to St. Louis. On July 13, 2022, Leddy signed a four-year, $16 million extension with the Blues. He wore a Blues sweater when he played his 1,000th game in a storybook matchup against his hometown Wild:

Nick Leddy was born in Eden Prairie, MN, and attended the University of Minnesota. He also represented the United States in Under-18 and World Juniors contests and has 5 assists with no goals in all his appearances.
