Game 1: Red Sox 5, Cardinals 4 (10 innings)
Starting Pitchers - STL: Andre Pallante, BOS: Sean Newcomb
The first game of the day was a tightly contested battle that went to extra innings following a shaky ninth from Ryan Helsley. St. Louis struck first in the 4th with RBI singles from Masyn Winn and Victor Scott II. Boston quickly answered with a stolen base by Rob Refsnyder and an RBI single from David Hamilton to tie it 1–1.
In the 5th, Rafael Devers gave Boston the lead with a solo homer, but the Cardinals tied it again in the 6th thanks to Pedro Pagés’ ground-rule double. Pagés struck again in the 8th, knocking in two more with a double to put St. Louis up 4–2.
The Red Sox put together a late rally in the 9th. Romy González’s RBI double and a bases-loaded walk to Devers tied it 4–4. In the 10th, after an intentional walk to Triston Casas, Wilyer Abreu delivered a walk-off single scoring Alex Bregman for the 5–4 Boston win.
Cardinals catcher Iván Herrera exited Game 1 with left knee inflammation. Manager Oli Marmol said initial tests were clean, but Herrera will be placed on the IL as a precaution.
