Win In Regulation And In For The Blues

The St. Louis Blues wrap up their regular season tonight at Enterprise Center against Utah with their Stanley Cup Playoffs hopes hanging in the balance.

The Blues control their own destiny, as a regulation win clinches their spot in the playoffs. There are several other ways the Blues can punch their ticket tonight - here is the entire list.

Blues Need To Snap Skid

The Blues have now dropped three in a row after their 12-game winning streak, setting up the pressure cooker that is tonight’s matchup. They’ll need a better performance tonight from Jordan Binnington, who has allowed 7 goals on just 41 shots over the last two games.

The Blues do have the comfort of being back on home ice where they have won 11 straight games, including a personal 10-game winning streak for Binnington.

Utah Not Going Out Quietly

Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, Utah is surging down the stretch. They are 4-0-1 over their last five games, including wins over Winnipeg and Dallas.

Utah has won two of the three meetings between the teams this season and are led by St. Louis native Clayton Keller, who has 29 goals and 60 assists on the season. Keller has thrived against the Blues in his career with 12 goals and 22 assists in 31 games.

My Pick

I frankly have no idea what’s going to happen in this game. It would be such a shame for the Blues to miss the playoffs after it looked like it was a near certainty with the 12-game winning streak.

So for my bet for this game, let me introduce you to a concept I often utilize in sports gambling when it comes to big games for the teams I cheer for - and that’s emotional risk management.

Have you ever said to yourself, “I would pay (X amount of money) to see this happen”?

Well, that’s what you can do with emotional risk management. You can wager an amount of money you’re comfortable with on your team’s opponent so you’re happy either way - either your team wins or you win some money. I lost a good amount of money to see the Blues win the Stanley Cup in 2019, and I was happy as a clam.

Here in 2025, I want to see the Blues make the playoffs. Right now on DraftKings, you can bet on the Blues to miss the playoffs at +360 odds. If you’re on board with emotional risk management as a betting strategy, that would be the route I would go.

But for the purpose of picking the game for this article, I’ll take Utah +135 on the Tie No Bet line on DraftKings as an emotional hedge.

If Utah wins in regulation, I win the bet.

If the game goes to overtime, the bet is a push.

And if the Blues win in regulation, I will happily lose this bet and celebrate as the Blues make their return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Pick: Utah Tie No Bet at +135 on DraftKings
