Cards, Reds Play Twin Bill
The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds will play a day-night doubleheader today at Great American Ball Park.
Last night’s game was rained out after the Reds took the series opener 3-1 on Monday. The Cards have played one doubleheader previously this season and lost both games in Boston by scores of 5-4 (a push on the total) and 18-7 (an obvious over on the total).
Game 1 Preview
Game 1 will feature last night’s scheduled starters in Miles Mikolas and Brady Singer.
Mikolas pitched 6 innings of shutout ball in his last start at Atlanta despite recording only 3 swings-and-misses on 89 pitches. The veteran right-hander has struggled at Cincinnati in his career with a 5.91 ERA in 8 starts in this ballpark.
Singer has allowed 3 earned runs or less in each of his first five starts as a member of the Reds. His offense has given him plenty of run support as well with an average of 8.4 runs per game. The Reds’ offense features shortstop Elly De La Cruz currently riding a 12-game hitting streak.
Game 2 Preview
Steven Matz jumps back into the rotation to make the start for the Cardinals. The left-hander was terrific in his one previous start this season, giving up just 1 run on 2 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts in 5 innings in a win over Houston on April 16th. Overall this season, Matz has a 1.80 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 20 innings.
Besides De La Cruz, Matz will need to be careful with Noelvi Marte. The Reds third baseman has been on fire since April 20th with a .470 batting average (16-for-34), 3 home runs, and 16 RBI in 8 games.
The Reds’ Game 2 starter is TBD as of the time of this writing.
How To Bet This Doubleheader
With the pitching matchup for Game 1 being the same as was planned for last night, I’m going to stick with the same pick that I originally gave out - a Same Game Parlay of the Reds to score more than 3.5 runs and for Mikolas to walk at least one batter. I’m not getting as good of a price as yesterday, so I’m going to add on both teams to score at least one run to get it down to -125.
I’m going to pass on Game 2 dealing with so much unknown, but if forced to make a pick, I would take the Reds to win. It’s going to be pretty difficult to back the Cardinals on the road until they bust out of this early season funk away from home.
Pick for Game 1: Same Game Parlay priced at -125 on DraftKings - Reds over 3.5 runs scored AND Both teams to score 1+ runs AND Miles Mikolas 1+ walks allowed (bet to -130)
Lean for Game 2: Reds on the moneyline at -125 on DraftKings
