May 4, 2025; Winnipeg, Manitoba, CAN; St. Louis Blues players react on their double overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets in game seven of the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Canada Life Centre.

The St. Louis Blues’ season came to a crushing end in one of the most heartbreaking losses in franchise history, falling 4-3 to the Winnipeg Jets in double overtime of Game 7. St. Louis held a 3-1 lead late in the third period but collapsed in the final two minutes—yet again haunted by poor 6-on-5 defense. The loss concluded a thrilling and improbable season-ending run from the Blues and marked the third-longest Game 7 overtime in NHL history.

Scoring Recap

First Period

1:10 – Jordan Kyrou opened the scoring on the Blues' first shot, finishing a give-and-go with Colton Parayko after Pavel Buchnevich created the chance. It was the third time this series Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck allowed a goal on the first shot of the game.

7:16 – Mathieu Joseph doubled the lead with a wrister from the top of the left circle after jumping on a neutral zone turnover from Kyle Connor.

Second Period

11:41 – Cole Perfetti got the Jets on the board on the power play, tipping Kyle Connor’s pass along the goal line over Binnington’s left shoulder.

19:25 – Radek Faksa made it 3-1, finishing a 3-on-2 rush by sniping one over Hellebuyck’s glove after collecting a Nathan Walker feed.

Third Period

18:04 – Vladislav Namestnikov made it 3-2 with a deflected 6-on-5 goal that ricocheted off Ryan Suter and past Binnington’s blocker.

19:57 – Perfetti tied the game with just three seconds remaining, redirecting a cross-ice one-timer from Kyle Connor. It was the latest game-tying goal in a Game 7 in NHL history and tied for the second latest ever in any playoff game.

Overtime

Although no score, Jordan Binnington came up with several clutch saves to keep the Blues alive late.

Double Overtime

16:10 – Adam Lowry, the St. Louis-born Jets captain, ended it by deflecting Neal Pionk’s shot past Binnington—Winnipeg’s fourth deflected goal of the game.

Binnington finished with 43 saves on 47 shots and a .915 save percentage, doing everything possible to keep the Blues in it.

Notable Stats & Notes

All seven games in the series were won by the home team.

Connor Hellebuyck has now allowed 3+ goals in 15 of his last 16 playoff starts.

St. Louis allowed the most 5-on-6 goals in the regular season (13) and gave up two more in the final two minutes of Game 7.

Betting Recap

Jets ML (-155) cashed in dramatic fashion and the total went OVER 5.5 (+140). Eric Sontag’s pick looked great for most of the game, but anyone familiar with the Blues’ 5-on-6 struggles likely felt a potential collapse coming.

What’s Next for the Blues?

Blues head coach Jim Montgomery on the loss, "I've had a few painful ones. I've had overtime Game 7 losses. Anytime your season ends, it's painful."

Despite the heartbreaking finish, there’s plenty of optimism around this Blues team. Expected by many to miss the playoffs entirely, the Blues closed the year on a 15-game home win streak and came within inches of a second-round berth. For a team that barely grabbed the second Western Conference wild card spot, St. Louis made a statement in the final stretch of the season and put the rest of the league on notice.
