Cardinals One Win Away From .500
The St. Louis Cardinals can get back to the .500 mark if they can complete the sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon at Busch Stadium.
The Redbirds have won four straight games to raise their overall record to 18-19, including a 14-6 mark at home.
Gray Looks For Bounceback
Sonny Gray makes the start for the Cards today looking to rebound from his worst start of the season. The right-hander allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits in just 4.1 innings in a 9-3 loss to the Mets this past Friday.
Gray did pitch very well against the Pirates on April 8th, earning the win with 5 innings of 1-run ball with just 3 hits allowed and no walks. He could have gone longer, but he was pulled after 71 pitches on a freezing cold night in Pittsburgh.
Pirates A Sinking Ship
The Pirates’ season looks dead already, as they’re now 12-25 after dropping six in a row and nine of their last ten. Pittsburgh has gone 13 consecutive games without scoring more than 4 runs.
The Pirates give the ball today to Mitch Keller, who shut down the Cardinals with 7.1 shutout innings in a 2-1 Pittsburgh win on April 9th.
My Pick
That Keller start against the Cards last month was a weekday afternoon getaway day game for both teams, and we have that same situation here today. The under in the first five innings is a perfect 4-0 in that spot during Cardinals games this season.
I’m going to take that bet again here today, but under 4.5 in the first five innings is highly juiced at -140. So I’m going to combine that with the Pirates to score under 4.5 runs for the entire game to bring the odds down to -105. As mentioned above, Pittsburgh has scored 4 runs or less in 13 straight games.
Pick: Same Game Parlay priced at -105 on DraftKings - Under 4.5 total runs in the first five innings AND Pirates team total under 4.5 for the full game (bet to -110)
