CITY Begins U.S. Open Cup Run
St. Louis CITY SC begins what they hope is a long run in the U.S. Open Cup when they host Union Omaha in the Round of 32 tonight at Energizer Park.
These teams met in this same competition back in 2023, with CITY coming away with an easy 5-1 victory.
CITY Needs Major Bounceback
CITY will be looking to get a bad taste out of their mouths, as they are coming off their worst performance of the season in a 4-1 drubbing at Seattle this past Saturday.
After conceding just two total goals over their first six MLS games, CITY has now allowed ten goals over their last five games. They haven’t won since March 15th with five losses and two draws in their last seven matches.
Union Omaha Struggles To Score
Union Omaha plays in USL League One, which is the third-tier of soccer leagues in the United States. They are the defending champions in that league, but they are off to a rough start this season with one win, one draw, and two losses in their first four games.
Union Omaha has been held without a goal in three of their four league games this season. They did however advance to this round of the U.S. Open Cup by scraping out a 1-0 upset win over USL Championship side San Antonio FC.
My Lean
As reflected by the odds, this is a game CITY should win and win comfortably. And I think they’re going to be extra motivated to win it after an embarrassing performance at Seattle this past Saturday - plus, it’s been so long since they tasted victory.
If you’re looking for some action in this one, I think the best angle is to take CITY Half Time / Full Time at -125 on DraftKings. That means CITY needs to be ahead at halftime and win the game in regulation time in order for you to cash this bet.
This is just a lean for me and not a bet. It wouldn’t stun me to see this be 0-0 at halftime considering CITY’s scoring issues this season. But hopefully CITY comes out with their hair on fire and hammers this team like they did in the 2023 U.S. Open Cup.
