Cards Begin Nine-Game Trip
The St. Louis Cardinals look to extend their winning streak to six games when they begin a nine-game road trip tonight in Washington against the Nationals.
Also with a victory tonight, the Redbirds can climb back over the .500 mark for the first time since April 6th.
Can Cards End Road Woes?
The Cardinals will be tested on this nine-game trip with three games each in Washington, Philadelphia, and Kansas City. They have struggled to a 4-13 road record so far this season. Only the White Sox and Rockies have a worse record away from home.
Erick Fedde faces his former team tonight. The right-hander continues to live on the edge with a concerning 21-to-21 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Fedde’s last start pretty much epitomizes his season, as he went 5 innings against the Mets and gave up 6 hits and 5 walks with just 4 strikeouts, but he somehow survived by allowing only 3 runs.
Parker Getting Pounded Lately
Tonight’s Nationals starter Mitchell Parker has similar numbers to Fedde with 21 strikeouts and 20 walks this season. The left-hander began the season well from a results perspective with a 3-1 record and a 1.39 ERA in his first five starts, but regression has come hard for him as of late. Over his last two starts, Parker pitched a total of 9 innings and allowed 11 earned runs with 9 walks and just 1 strikeout.
The Nationals are led offensively by young stud James Wood. The 22-year-old outfielder has 10 home runs, 10 doubles, and a .937 OPS so far this season.
My Pick
I love the over in this game. We have two starters who walk a lot of hitters and give up a lot of contact. And when this game gets to the bullpens, the Cardinals should be able to put up some more runs. The Nationals rank dead last in MLB with an atrocious 7.22 bullpen ERA.
If one of these starting pitchers gets roughed up, we should hit this over. And if both get roughed up, this will be an easy cash.
Pick: Over 8.5 at -110 on DraftKings (bet to -120)
