Cards Face AL’s Best Pitcher
The St. Louis Cardinals’ hot streak will be put to the test tonight when they go up against reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers.
The Redbirds are now 13-2 over their last 15 games after last night’s 11-4 blowout win over Detroit. They are now just 1 game behind the Cubs for the top spot in the NL Central.
Fedde Looks To Extend Scoreless Run
Erick Fedde will be on the mound tonight looking to extend a scoreless run that has now reached 14.2 innings. The right-hander has allowed 2 earned runs or less in six of his nine starts this season.
However, Fedde could be due for some regression, as his 3.44 season ERA comes with a 4.93 xERA, 4.11 FIP, and 5.14 xFIP.
Skubal Looking To Rebound
The Tigers give the ball to one of the most dominant pitchers in the game in Skubal. The left-hander has struck out 11 or more batters in three of his last four starts and has a 71-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the season.
Skubal is looking to bounce back from his last outing where he gave up 5 runs in 6.1 innings against the Red Sox. Before that, he had permitted only 4 total earned runs over his previous six starts.
My Lean
This is a tough game to call.
I have no interest in betting against Skubal, but I also don’t want to stand in front of this Cardinals train.
The first five under 4.5 is too juiced (-145), and I also don’t want to take an over with Skubal pitching.
And the prop market isn’t appealing with one ace pitcher and one red-hot pitcher as your starters.
So this is a stay-away for me. My picks for Sports Hub STL in these articles are 46-35 and +7.98 units with an 8.67% ROI, and I’ve accomplished that by being selective and not forcing bets. To give you a comparison, my leans where I have no strong opinion on a game have a record of 17-34 - meaning I’ve been wise to stay away from those games.
This game is definitely a lean for me, as I frankly have no idea how it’s going to go. But if forced to make a bet, my action would be on the Cardinals to win at a big plus money price. Fedde is rolling right now, and the Cards have already beaten some big name pitchers this season - including Pablo López, Paul Skenes (twice), Aaron Nola (twice), Zack Wheeler, Framber Valdez, and Cole Ragans. Hopefully the Redbirds can add Skubal to that list tonight.
Lean: Cardinals on the moneyline at +160 on DraftKings
